Tropical Mix

1,330,758 tCO₂e reduction

This project aims to restore biodiversity and create a healthy forest ecosystem across 13,385 hectares of Panama’s rainforest. Located at the land bridge between North and South America, Panama’s rainforest is one of the planet’s most biodiverse regions. However, this vital ecosystem is threatened by urban development and cattle ranching. To date, more than 7.5 million trees have been planted, helping to absorb CO₂, secure water resources, and reduce soil erosion. The project has already contributed to a CO₂e reduction of approximately 1,330,758 tonnes—equivalent to almost 3% of Sweden’s annual climate impact. For every tonne financed, around seven trees are planted and 65 square metres of forest are protected.

What is reforestation

This project operates with vintage years, indicating the year in which carbon credits were issued. Each vintage year reflects the amount of CO₂ that was avoided or removed from the atmosphere by the project during that specific year. The project employs a removal mechanism, meaning it actively removes or reduces harmful emissions from the atmosphere. Classified as ARR (Afforestation, Reforestation & Revegetation), this project type involves planting new forests or restoring degraded ones to increase carbon sequestration and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. ARR projects can generate carbon credits by demonstrating enhanced carbon storage through tree planting and forest regrowth. A carbon standard is applied, representing a set of rules and criteria used to measure, report, and verify emissions reductions or removals from the project. Carbon standards are critical in carbon markets, as they provide a consistent and transparent methodology for determining the number of carbon credits that a project can generate.
